Happy New Years and Top 10!

Sorry no Feature Friday today.  I'm traveling again today.  I just wanted to give a little more details on the next craft challenge.  The theme is new years resolutions.  This means you can share something that will help you achieve your goal like my fuzzie jar I shared a few days ago, or you can share your resolutions for the year.  I would love to know what they are.  I'm sure there are other things that would fit into this category so if you think it might then please share it!

Also with the end of the year its always fun to look back and see how much has changed over the last year.  Its been a big year here at Crystal's Craft Spot.  In January I had just over 50 followers and now I'm over 500!  I can't believe it.  I also started the Craft Challenge and feature Friday, have sponsors, and opened an etsy shop.  I've also met a ton of new people that I happily call my friends.  This year I learned to crochet and improved some of my skills in other crafting areas like sewing.  In our personal life we moved twice, changed jobs, experienced many trials, heartaches, and unknowns as well as many times of joy, triumphs, excitement, peace, hope, and love.  Its been a wonderful year and I'm so excited for the future.

I thought it would be fun to end the year with my top 10 favorite projects from 2010

Happy New Year!
Come back on Monday for the kick off of the 2 Week Guest Blogger event!

Aww Much Better!

I mentioned a few weeks ago I was able to review a product from CSN.  Well I looked and finally settled on some pots and pans (review coming after I try them out) and this shower curtain.  Ohhh I Love it!
Here's our old one we bought when we were first married.  Not bad but it was getting worn out.
This is much better and it makes me smile every time I walk by.  I love that CSN shipped it within a few days.  They also had a huge selection of curtains and I was able to find exactly what I wanted.  They are a little more expensive then somewhere like Walmart but it seems like its real good quality.  When I pulled it out of the box Livy loved it and wanted it as a blanket.  It really is so pretty.  We hung it up and she insisted she take a bath with her blanket right away.  I would say that means it was a success.  Now that none of my bathroom decor matches any more I things its time to redecorate...Lots of projects coming!

Rewards system

With the new year fast approaching I often think of all the things I want to do better.  One of my new year resolutions is to work on adding more structure to our home.  An area I really struggle with is discipline.  I don't want to be one of those frustrated mommy's that yell all the time (I feel like that happens far to often in our home).  So I am going to try and reinforce their positive behaviour and hope that it will prevent some of that frustration.  We've been trying a new system for a few weeks now and can I just say ITS WORKING!  Aubrey is actually very into it and Livy follows a lot of what Aubrey does so it works there too.  We call it our Fuzzy Jar. (They've earned a lot more since this picture was taken).
Here's how it works:
When the do something the first time asked they get a fuzzy (one of those little pom pom balls) to put in the jar.  We also give one for helping, doing something with out being asked, being extra kind, or any type of good behaviour we happen to notice.
Once the Jar is full they will get a small prize.  We let them choose one ahead of time (Aubrey wants Chocolate Popsicles which I quickly agreed to).
Like I said so far its been working great.  Its nice to look for all of the good things they do instead of only watching for and reacting to them getting into trouble.  Time out still happens but the focus on the good has made for a less frustrated mom and a more grateful mom for realizing how sweet my girls really are.

*The idea of giving Fuzzies came from this talk by President Monson.  He tells of a primary putting warm fuzzies in a jar for all of the service they did during the year.  It represents the warm feeling or the warm fuzzies you feel when you serve.  My goal for the year is to also teach Aubrey the purpose behind the fuzzies.

Two weeks before Christmas I had a few custom orders and wanted to show you the hats!

I was in a hurry so the first two colors are a little off but they were so fun.  I hope the two little boys like them.

I love this one and the color combination.  Livy was so sad it wasn't for her.  I'm thinking she might need one as well.
When you craft whats your go to color combination?

A first for me!

I was recently (okay a while ago) given a pattern to test from one of my fabulous sponsors, Mama Stellato.  I tested her hoddie pattern and can I tell you I was scared.  I've never sewn clothes before (except for a really simple elastic skirts or dresses with ribbon for sleeves).  The thought of making a real piece of clothing sure was out of my comfort zone.  I started and can I tell you this pattern makes you feel like a pro!  Seriously its easy enough for a beginner but the final result doesn't look like a beginner made it.  In fact two of my friends (that don't really think of me as crafty) were shocked when I told them I made it and it wasn't from the store.  Now that I have raved about the excellent pattern and feeling good about myself here's a little more detail on the pros and cons of this particular pattern.
I loved that it comes in several sizes all the way up to 6T which is what I made.  You would be able to make several of these without them looking the same such as adding a pocket or lengthening it for a dress (doing that for Livy).  I really like the details, it makes it look more professional.  The only thing I didn't like is knit fabric (which its made from) is expensive.  I found mine at Joann's for a pretty good price but there wasn't much to choose from.  Overall I see a lot of hoodies in my girls future.

This is one of Aubrey's Christmas presents so I had Livy try it on to show you how cute the hood is.  She loved it and was angry when I made her take it off.
Seriously if you are looking for some cute girl clothes patterns and are a beginner to an expert Mama Stellato is a great choice.  Before I even finished this project I bought two more of her adorable dress patterns.

Gift for Grandma

This year I decided to make my mom a necklace for Christmas.  After two attempts and the little one below breaking it both times, I gave up and decided to let them help.  I gave each one a piece long enough for a bracelet and put the clasp on one end.  I then let them pick out a few different color of beads (somewhat coordinating) and then let them make their bracelet however they wanted.
Aren't they adorable concentrating. (yes it was one of those we didn't do our hair, they have ten shirts on, and a runny  nose sort of day but still cute).

Aubrey just kept going and going so it was a little too big for a bracelet but perfect to add a chain for a necklace.  I think its pretty fun.

Olivia's bracelet. (she did half so I completed her pattern)

Hopefully she will love her new jewelry made by her granddaughters.

Craft Show

I forgot to post about the craft show earlier this month.  It went pretty good and was a really great learning experience.  Here are a few things I learned: Don't start working on everything 2 days before.  Always do a booth with a friend (it a long day and I'm glad I had two of them), know your audience...this tiny town is probably a lot different then another place would be, and I need more stuff!   Overall it was fun.  I'm pretty sure I won't do this craft fair next year but would like to try one somewhere else.  I didn't have a clue what to expect so I'm glad I had somewhere to start and next time I'll be more prepared.
Here are some picture of our booth.

(most of the hats were Melissa's from the Hahn shop.  She brought over 100!  It was awesome)

so cute sunday

Sorry its going up so late.  I woke up with the flu.  I decided that I love highlight project I find and now I will also share my new love...etsy.  I am so amazed at all of the talent and decided to start sharing new shops as well.

A Vision To Remember  is one of the first shops I ever looked at.  She has the cutest rag quits and car seat covers.  She even sells the patterns.  Here are some of my favorites from her shop.
Okay I thought this was a brilliant idea from Kimbo!  She makes interchangeable holiday shirts and show you how here.  I'm going to start doing this.
I love these snowman shirts from Harrigan Howdy.  I love that they can wear them all winter instead of just December.  After Christmas project for sure!
Serving Pink Lemonade has this beautiful Christmas printable.  A great reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
Well I haven't gotten even half done that I was hoping to and the flu sure isn't helping.  I'm hoping to have some fun Christmas gift ideas for you this week.  See you Tomorrow! (I hope)

Amazing Gingerbread House and a vote please

My Cousin Braden in only 18 yet he has been cooking for years.  He (with the help of his family and sweet girlfriend) entered this gingerbread house in a competition on Ivory Homes.  The challenge was to create a house to look like one of their house plans. I think his turned out pretty great. Look at all the detail (I can't even get a wall to stand up).  This boy has so much talent, he makes the best cheesecake, can cook anything from scratch (and you know its going to delicious), he has his own herb garden, and has even been in competitions (winning some of course).  If you have a minute stop by and help him out by voting for his house.  You need to like Ivory homes before you can vote.  Then vote for him here (you just need to click like on his picture).  Oh and if you vote leave a comment, there just might be a giveaway involved if he wins ;)

If I haven't convince you yet here are a few more pictures of the gingerbread house.
The real house
and the Skinny Cook.
Good Luck Braden!

P.S. I'm coming next week and would really like some cheesecake or rolls please.

Scrapbook: Wedding Edition

Here are a few pages I finished up.  The first two are from my Sister-in-Laws wedding and the third is from my sisters.  I love the simplicity of the pages and that the pictures are the focus.
